DB launches training programme for refugees

Deutsche Bahn has launched a railway training scheme for refugees who have previous experience of electrical engineering.

An initial group of 15 people originally from Nigeria, Eritrea, Congo, Iran, Algeria, Somalia, Syria and Tunisia have been selected for the programme, which runs for 28 months and starts with a four-month language course.

Bombardier’s Battery Powered Tram Sets Range Record

Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation has successfully completed a 41.6 km catenary-free test run using a Bombardier-built tram, powered entirely by its PRIMOVE battery in combination with BOMBARDIER MITRAC. The test run was conducted in the German city of Mannheim on the Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (RNV) network.

As part of the United Transport & Logistics Co joint venture of the national railways of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, RZD Logistics subsidiary Far East Land Bridge launched a weekly block train service from Shenyang to Hamburg on October 30.

Hungarian company builds tram for Africa

ETHIOPIA: A prototype tram for the African market has been delivered to Addis Ababa by Hungarian company Dunai Repülőgépgyár.

DR intends to carry out series production in Ethiopia using Hungarian components, and is in talks with Ethiopian state-owned Metals & Engineering Corp about constructing a test track. It is also negotiating financing with the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. Meanwhile, the prototype is being kept at Metals & Engineering Corp’s site.
